** THE SHOWBIZ LIVE! – UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Dec. 5, 2014 — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti—reading in Seussian rhyme—presentedUniversal Studios HollywoodSM and The Grinch with the first-ever “Grinchmas” Mayoral Proclamation as The Entertainment Capital of L.A.SM kicked off the merry “GrinchmasTM” Wholiday season with a spectacular tree lighting ceremony, glistening snowfall and dazzling fireworks display.
Speaking on behalf of L.A. tourism growth, Mayor Garcetti also reinforced the city’s goal of attaining 50 million visitors by the year 2020, crediting Universal Studios Hollywood as one the most popular tourist destinations in Los Angeles and a singular factor in delivering half of that increase.

As one of the most popular tourist destinations in Los Angeles, Universal Studios Hollywood attracts visitors from across the globe with their unparalleled attractions, including such seasonal celebrations as ‘Grinchmas,’ and is pivotal to our city’s economic vitality,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
The nighttime tree lighting extravaganza featured a star-studded line-up of Hollywood’s Who‘s Who, including Yvette Nicole Brown(“Community,” “Family Guy” and the upcoming TV series “The Odd Couple”), Alexa PenaVega (“Nashville,” “Spy Kids”), and Carlos PenaVega (“Big Time Rush,” “The Penguins of Madagascar“), who were on hand to help the Whoville Whos illuminate the towering “Grinchmas” tree.
“Grinchmas” runs weekends on December 6-7 and 13-14, then continues daily from Friday, December 19, 2014 through Saturday, January 3, 2015.
The Universal Plaza, an elaborate grand piazza at the heart of the theme park, will serve as the backdrop for the lighting of the towering “Grinchmas” tree – a whimsical centerpiece twisting and spiraling 60 feet above visitors and providing the ideal setting for merry holiday- making memories, while The Grinch, his adorable dog Max and the Whoville Whos entertain guests nearby with fun-filled photo opportunities.
As part of the fab-Who-lous event, Martha May Whovier and the Who Dolls will take center stage by the “Grinchmas” tree performing energetic musical sets to usher in the Christmas season in style. The Wholiday Singers—a hip boy-band ensemble—will perform nightly a cappella concerts featuring a mix of Christmas favorites and pop rock.
